Petition to Keep [City/Village Name] Safe and Fair for Everyone

We, the undersigned residents of the [City/Village Name], call on the [City Council / Village Board] to protect the rights and safety of all residents—regardless of immigration status.

Families in our community should not live in fear because of federal immigration enforcement. When neighbors are afraid to work, report crimes, or access public services, our whole community becomes less safe and less connected.

We ask our local leaders to adopt a Local Noncooperation and Community Trust Resolution to ensure that:

  1. Local resources are used for local safety.
City or village employees - including police - shall not assist in civil immigration enforcement based on administrative ICE requests or warrants. Cooperation shall occur only when legally required, such as when there is a judicial warrant and a serious criminal case.

  2. Resident privacy is protected.
Local departments shall not collect or share immigration status information unless required by law.

  3. City or village property cannot be used for ICE operations.
No municipal building, parking lot, equipment, data system, or other resource shall be made available for federal immigration enforcement activities unless legally compelled by a judicial warrant.

  4. Transparency is required.
The city or village shall publicly report any federal requests for cooperation and document how they are handled.

By adopting these principles, [City/Village Name] will strengthen public safety, protect families, and ensure that local government remains accountable to the people who live here—not federal immigration agents.

The Trump administration is deploying ICE deep into the hearts of our communities in an effort to spread fear among immigrants. In many places across the country, immigrant families – even citizens – are terrified to go to work, to do their shopping, to go about their lives for fear they may be rounded up by unaccountable masked men.

We can and must stand up for immigrants and show that they are essential and welcomed members of our communities.

Sign up now to visit local businesses in your neighborhood. Ask the business owners or managers to post signs that declare their support for their immigrant neighbors and opposition to ICE as well as create a private area for employees that ICE cannot legally enter without a signed judicial warrant. These are simple steps that businesses can take to protect their employees from ICE and make all immigrants feel welcome in your community.
